On April 7, I read a startling report titled Maya Angelou Memoir: Holocaust Books Are Among Those Pulled from the Naval Academy Library in the DEI Purge. The article related how nearly 400 books were erased from the academy’s library this week after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office ordered the removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion materials.

Regardless of where you stand politically, this moment is a wake-up call. Voices are being silenced. Histories are being rewritten. Entire identities are being erased. But you are here. Your voice matters. Your story deserves to be told.

Legacy is not just about what we leave behind. It is about how we choose to show up today. And to do so, we have to step boldly into the spotlight.

That’s why this month is all about visibility—not just being seen but truly owning your presence. Do not wait for permission, but take up space with confidence and purpose.
